Salesforce Certification Maintenance Due Date: Dec 4, 2026
By John Harris · 2026-10-13
If you hold Platform App Builder, Platform Developer, or any of the architect certifications covered by the Architect maintenance badge, your Winter '26 maintenance is due on Friday, December 4, 2026. Miss it and the certification expires. Salesforce lists that date in Pacific Time and says dates are subject to change, so your own Trailblazer profile has the final word.
The Winter '26 badges went live on December 11, 2025. A year sounded like plenty back then. It's now mid-October.
Is your certification due on December 4?
Salesforce's Certification Maintenance Schedule puts these credentials on the Winter '26 cycle, due December 4:
Platform App Builder
Platform Developer and Platform Developer II, both maintained by the one Platform Developer badge
Platform Data Architect, Platform Development Lifecycle and Deployment Architect, Platform Identity and Access Management Architect, Platform Integration Architect and Platform Sharing and Visibility Architect, all covered by a single Architect maintenance badge
B2C Solution Architect
Data 360 Consultant (the maintenance module's URL still says data-cloud-consultant, if that's the name you're searching for)
Marketing Cloud Engagement Administrator and Marketing Cloud Engagement Consultant
MuleSoft Developer and Slack Developer
Tableau Architect, Tableau Consultant, Tableau Data Analyst and Tableau Server Administrator, through one Tableau badge with four modules inside it (Salesforce asks you to finish all four)
The architect credentials stack on top of each other. Application Architect and Technical Architect need the App Builder, Platform Developer and Architect badges. System Architect needs Platform Developer plus Architect. B2C Solution Architect needs its own badge plus App Builder and Architect.
Three certifications are a special case. B2B Solution Architect, MuleSoft Catalyst Consultant and MuleSoft Hyperautomation Developer retire on February 1, 2027, and Salesforce's retirement FAQ says their maintenance requirements have been removed. The prerequisites underneath them still need theirs.
If you only hold Platform Administrator, or a consultant cert maintained by the Admin badge (Agentforce Sales Consultant, Agentforce Service Consultant, Experience Cloud Consultant and several others), you're on the Spring '26 cycle, due April 16, 2027. Agentforce Specialist and JavaScript Developer are Summer '26, due August 20, 2027.
How to check your own due date
Open your Trailblazer profile. Each certification shows a status (Active, Maintenance Due, Expiring Soon, Expired or Retired), and below it a maintenance section only you can see, with the badge you owe and its due date.
The other route is the verification page at trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/verification. Enter your profile email in the "Certification Holders: Check Your Status" box and Salesforce emails you every certification you hold, the maintenance modules required and their deadlines.
I wouldn't wait for the reminder email. With eight-plus certifications spread across different cycles, I've found the reminders are the easiest part of this to lose in an inbox. Salesforce says the same thing more politely: don't rely on the emails alone. Its help page suggests checking spam and confirming the address on your Trailhead Academy account, under your profile picture in the top-right corner.
What maintenance actually involves
You complete one Trailhead badge per maintenance requirement, once a year. Trailhead's own estimates for the Winter '26 badges look like this.
Platform App Builder takes about 30 minutes: a 5-minute reading unit, then a 25-minute hands-on challenge on sorting list views by multiple columns. Platform Developer runs about 45 minutes, most of it a hands-on unit on running Apex and Flow tests together. The Architect badge is about 40 minutes across five short reading units with no hands-on challenge. Data 360 Consultant is listed at about 5 minutes.
So even Application Architect or Technical Architect, which need three badges, comes to under two hours on Trailhead's numbers. That's one evening.
Most maintenance modules I've done were quick, and the reading units usually match their estimates. The hands-on units are where the time goes, and Trailhead's challenge checks aren't always instant.
The status update isn't instant either. Salesforce's schedule page says to allow up to 24 hours, and its verification article says changes can take up to one business day to show. If your status still reads Expired after that, confirm the badge landed on the Trailhead account linked to your certifications. Then open a case with a screenshot of the completed badge, a screenshot of your status page and the email on your certification account.
What happens if you miss December 4
Your certification expires, along with every certification maintained by that same badge. Skip the Platform Developer badge and you lose Platform Developer and Platform Developer II on the same day. Certifications that list an expired one as a prerequisite expire too. Salesforce calls this cascade expiry.
From there, Salesforce describes two paths.
Reinstatement
For a certification that expired recently, you can ask for it back:
Open a support case at help.salesforce.com.
Choose Trailhead > Certifications as the product and topic.
Explain when your certification expired and what happened.
Attach anything that shows your previous certification status.
Salesforce reviews these case by case, and reinstatement isn't guaranteed. If the deadline passed because the reminder never reached you, the expiration article sends you to the same place, a case through Agent in Salesforce Help.
Here's what the official pages leave out. There's no definition of "recently," no published window and no published fee. I couldn't find a number anywhere on Salesforce's own sites, so treat any grace period quoted elsewhere as a guess. If you miss the date, file the case that week. Waiting won't make your expiry any more recent.
Retaking the exam
Once a certification has been expired for more than one cycle, Salesforce's standard path is to retake the exam, registered at full price on Trailhead Academy. That means sitting the full proctored exam again.
Re-earning one certification doesn't automatically bring back the ones that depended on it, with one exception Salesforce spells out: Application Architect and System Architect come back on their own once you re-earn the expired prerequisite. Technical Architect doesn't. You'd re-earn the prerequisites, then go through the Architect Evaluation and the Review Board exam again. B2C Solution Architect holders would need the lapsed prerequisite and the B2C Solution Architect exam.
If you're a CTA, put December 4 in your calendar today.
Do this this week
Open your Trailblazer profile and write down every maintenance badge it lists for you, with its due date.
Check you're signed in to the Trailhead account your certifications are linked to before starting a badge.
Make sure the email on your profile is one you still read, and search your spam folder for old reminders.
Block one evening for the badges.
Treat December 3 as your real deadline. The schedule runs on Pacific Time and your status can take a day to sync.
Screenshot each completed badge. If your status doesn't update, support will ask for it.
Don't leave this for the last weekend. The modules are short, but a hands-on check that won't pass on the evening of December 4 is a bad way to find out how long reinstatement cases take.
If it comes to a retake
A maintenance module assumes you still know the platform. A retake checks that from scratch, against the current exam guide. If that's where you land with App Builder or Platform Developer, our practice courses at forceacademy.io use original scenario questions written by certified professionals, with an explanation for every option, the wrong ones included. If you'd like to see how we write them first, the Platform Administrator course is free: forceacademy.io/course/platform-admin
